Foreign Language Program at Hamilton Central School

Colgate students reading to young children at a school

Colgate student coordinators and student volunteers, mentored by faculty advisers, design and teach German lessons to Hamilton Central School elementary students each semester as part of the Foreign Language Program at HCS, sponsored by the Keck Center for Language Study. Contact Nathan Conlon (nconlon@colgate.edu) for more information or to participate.

During Fall 2020, our regular in-person co-curricular events listed below will not take place, due to Covid-era restrictions. We will instead offer alternate virtual gatherings to speak German outside of class, including Kaffeestunde, game nights, and Netflix parties film screenings.

Watch our Facebook and Instagram sites to keep abreast of German program events.

Kaffeestunde

Wednesdays, 4:15–5:15 p.m.
Max Kade German Center, 115 Lawrence Hall

Germans traditionally have "Kaffee and Kuchen" in the afternoon. Join faculty and fellow students for a hot drink, cookies, cake — and the chance to speak German, play games, plan events, and more.

Table of Babel

Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Frank Dining Hall

The Table of Babel gives you the opportunity to chat over lunch with students and faculty who are interested in German.
