President Joe Biden this week labeled the deaths of more than a million Armenians killed at the hands of Ottoman Turks in 1915 as genocide, a public recognition that Colgate English professor and Pulitzer Prize winner Peter Balakian has urged for decades.

Jacob Watts ’21
In the Professor Eddie Watkins' fern ecophysiology lab, Watts studies why some ferns grow directly on other plants, rather than in the soil. His research has been published in the Annals of Botany and the International Journal of Plant Sciences and won him multiple grants and fellowships.
