Private Off-Campus Housing Process

About Living Off Campus

The University finds that students excel and graduate at higher rates when they live on campus, so Colgate has an eight-semester residency requirement to live in University-owned housing. Colgate does, however, offer approval to a small number (one-third) of senior-year students to live in privately owned, off-campus housing due to our on-campus housing capacity limits. Approval to live off campus is granted through an application and lottery process.

Watch TV on Campus

SpectrumU is available in all student residences on campus.

There is no cost for access to SpectrumU programming. Students do need to provide their own television set and compatible device to access the SpectrumU app.

Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment

The fraternity and sorority community at Colgate is composed of eight internationally affiliated organizations. Many students find that joining a fraternity or sorority provides them with a home away from home and a foundation for leadership, academic, athletic, service, and interpersonal opportunities. The decision to join a fraternity or sorority is a lifelong commitment, with connections lasting long after graduation.
