Gaeilge, the Irish language, has been far from a working language for centuries — however, it is intricately tied to Irish history and culture. Sophie Naylor ’24 traveled to Belfast, Dublin, and Galway to study the role Gaeilge played in the development of the Irish national identity post-British occupation.

Mackenzie has been involved with Haven, Colgate’s sexual violence resource center, since their first year and has largely shaped her academic path around this work, focusing their Women’s Studies senior project on responses to sexual violence on campus. Using the AMS grant allowed Mackenzie to gain new perspectives by attending a week-long training called Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience at the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA.

Scholars are selected at the time of admission to Colgate for their dedication and interest in scholarship. Scholars receive personalized mentorship from faculty affiliates, funding to support student projects, and a supportive community of scholarship.
