Program Overview

Colgate University is proud to partner with Verto Education to offer an academic program that allows you to begin your college experience abroad at one of three global study centers before transitioning to campus in the spring semester.

Starting college with Verto means choosing a rigorous, globally focused education grounded in experiential learning, with full support throughout your transition to Colgate. All courses are delivered by Verto's accredited academic provider, the University of New Haven, and have been reviewed and approved by Colgate for transfer credit — ensuring a seamless path to on-campus study and a timely graduation.

Colgate is participating in three locations to choose from:

Florence, Italy

Prague, Czech Republic

Seville, Spain

Requirements

While participating in Verto, students will be expected to meet four requirements to enroll at Colgate in the spring 2027 term:

  1. Enroll in 16 Colgate-approved credits.
  2. Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Score grades at a C or higher.
  4. Maintain good disciplinary standing.

Deadlines and Deposits

Prague deposit deadline: May 18, 2026
Seville and Florence deposit deadline: June 1, 2026

What Colgate Verto Semester Abroad Program requirements must I meet while abroad?

  • Enroll in 16 credits of Colgate-approved coursework
  • Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Score grades at a C or higher
  • Maintain good disciplinary standing during your semester abroad as outlined in Verto’s code of responsibility.

What happens if I don’t meet the program requirements?

  • If you fall below the requirements, you will still be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. You are encouraged to reach out to Colgate University at verto@colgate.edu to discuss your options for matriculation at Colgate.

Can I take courses while abroad with Verto that are not transferable to Colgate University?

  • No. You are required to enroll in a minimum of 16 Colgate-approved transferable credits during your semester abroad with Verto.

How will participating in Verto affect my degree plan?

  • Verto courses have been approved by Colgate to help students progress toward a timely graduation.

Are there any intended majors that are ineligible for the Colgate Verto Semester Abroad Program?

How will the courses I take abroad transfer back to Colgate University?

When will I receive my formal offer of admission?

  • Provided that you meet all the program requirements mentioned above, you will be formally offered admission in November.

What steps do I need to take to confirm my intent to enroll at Colgate University after Verto, and what is the enrollment deadline?

  • Students will be required to pay an enrollment deposit directly to Colgate to declare an intent to enroll. Deposit information will be sent to students in November after Colgate receives midyear Verto grades.

When will I choose my classes for the spring semester? 

  • Registration instructions will be provided after you submit an enrollment deposit.

Can I extend my time with Verto while maintaining my guaranteed admission to Colgate University?

  • Admission to Colgate is only available for the spring 2027 semester. Those who decide to pursue a second Verto semester will need to apply to Colgate as transfer students.

Do I need to send my final Verto transcripts to Colgate University?

  • No. Midterm and final grades are shared with Colgate by the University of New Haven.

When will my new student orientation take place?

  • Colgate Verto Semester Abroad Program students will attend an on-campus transfer student orientation in January 2027.

When will I learn about my campus housing?

  • Colgate housing is guaranteed to all students for four years. Students will be notified about their housing assignment after submitting an enrollment deposit. Learn about Colgate housing.

When I arrive on campus in the spring, how can I get involved in campus clubs and organizations?

If I am interested in Greek life, will I have an opportunity to join after Verto?

  • To qualify, students must attain sophomore status and be in good academic standing. Fraternity and sorority recruitment takes place each year in September. Information about registration is made available in August. Learn about Greek life recruitment here.
