Hello, Colgate Community.
Student Health Services staff and their colleagues processed more than 2,400 tests last weekend. It was a pleasure to be there and talk with so many students, even if you were about to push a pipe cleaner up your nose.
As I mentioned in an email to students on Saturday, around 200 people either didn’t come in for a test or came a day late. More than 50 of those were still being collected today. That puts us a full 10% off schedule. We will still do what we can to move to Gate 1 as quickly as possible. But, as President Casey said last Friday, we will need to wait for all of the relevant data to make safe, informed decisions.
To keep this message from being as bleak as the sky outside, I want to remind you that great things are happening across campus even as we work our way through Gate 0. Take part in MLK Celebration events. Get out for rec time. Enjoy the walk to pick up your meals (and then the sensation of being able to feel your toes again once you’re back in your room). Watch our Raiders on ESPN+. Embrace the excitement that comes with filling an empty notebook with interesting facts from a new class. And remember that we are part of something bigger than our individual selves again this semester — we are Colgate Together. There’s joy in that.
I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
Laura H. Jack
Vice President for Communications
Take Note
On-campus students, the COVE is again collecting non-perishable food items for donation to the Hamilton Food Cupboard. Donation boxes have been placed in all residence halls except the Townhouses (boxes will be placed there at the end of Gate 0). Please consider donating any items you will not need during the quarantine.
Faculty members, the February issue of The Grant Advisor Plus, with upcoming grant deadlines and a searchable database, is now available. To access this resource from off-campus, use this link. You will be prompted to enter your Colgate network login. It is also available through the grants office website. For assistance in identifying grant sources, or advice about preparing proposals, please contact grantsoffice@colgate.edu.
Students, printing is available during the recreation period in a variety of locations across campus. Log on to webprint.colgate.edu and select Gate-FindMe-Printer (virtual). If you upload your print job from your computer, you can then log in from your phone when you are at the location and select print. Additional information can be found at webprint.colgate.edu.
