As scholars in the Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS) program, students will participate in four years of programming and engagement.
During the summer prior to their first academic year, OUS scholars participate in the Summer Institute, which introduces students to the academic rigor of Colgate and provides an opportunity for students to get acquainted with campus.
First Years
When the semester begins, OUS scholars join a Residential Commons. There, students will have an opportunity to further develop relationships established over the summer, as well as make new friends.
Throughout their first year, OUS scholars learn: effective strategies to transition to campus life, how best to access mentors and work with faculty members, how to develop and sustain social and cultural capital, and how to become fully engaged students.
Sophomores
As sophomores, OUS scholars continue to broaden their involvement on campus; OUS collaborates with campus partners to sponsor a variety of programming, including opportunities to learn about study abroad and other off-campus study options, internship and academic research opportunities, choosing a major, and career planning.
Juniors
As juniors, OUS scholars continue to deepen their involvement on campus as active learners and engaged citizens. Additionally, programming focuses on alumni and career networks, nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships, and internships and other experiential activities. OUS scholars are encouraged to engage in academic research and study abroad opportunities.
Seniors
As seniors, Colgate encourages OUS scholars to pursue thesis work, independent research, and other scholarly opportunities. Students connect with counselors in career services, as well as alumni, regarding life after Colgate.
Alumni
Participation in the OUS Scholars Program continues after commencement — the experience shapes lives and careers.
