Back to Career Services News

Abigail Flynn's summer experience was a ten-week Arabic program with the Huruf Center in Cairo. It was taught online with a curriculum curated by the center in conjunction with Arabic professors at Colgate. She spent three hours a day online with an instructor covering course material and then worked an additional four hours everyday studying. She spent a total of 150 hours doing online work with the instructor and all of the homework hours as well.

After participating in this program, Abigail is now able to skip year two of her Arabic program at Colgate. Since she started Arabic as a sophomore, this will put her on track to be able to complete the 400 level by the time she graduates. She covered the entire textbook that comprises year two of Arabic through this program. Abigail has greatly increased her skills in formal and colloquial Arabic, which will help in her study abroad to Cairo and in her career aspirations in the future.

Colgate and its generous alumni and parent donors offer grants to support students' living costs and supplemental expenses to pursue unpaid and underpaid summer experiences. Learn more about Colgate summer funding.
