Colgate Together Digest

Back to Colgate Together Digest

Hello, Colgate Community,

Typically, this is the time of year when we return books to the library. There’s no kind of lightness like the kind you enjoy on the walk home after sliding a half-dozen tomes down the chute. But, today, I found myself in the checkout line at the library, and I want to thank Ricki Mueller, circulation and reserves lead coordinator, for her help and kind words.

I’ve spent nine months passing along stats, clarifications, warnings, and best wishes. Even though there are four days left in the semester, we are at the point where my focus is on gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who proved that Colgate Together is more than a phrase or even an idea. It is how we made it through two semesters of in-person education. I have one more day to thank you, so watch for that on Friday.

Last Saturday, at the ALANA Multicultural Graduation, Professor Hagos told us, “It is not where you start in life that counts most but where your hard work takes you.” Good luck with the rest of finals week.

Vice President for Communications

Take Note

All employees working shifts or volunteering for Commencement 2021 — including the student check-in Saturday afternoon, torchlight on Saturday night, and the commencement ceremony on Sunday — are required to check in at the Hall of Presidents tomorrow, between 8 a.m. and noon or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please schedule your check-in appointment online if you have yet to do so, and check your inbox for yesterday’s message with further details.

Seniors, as we approach commencement weekend, please review our guest policy page. Remember that all in attendance at commencement weekend events will be expected to adhere to our public health guidelines — which are set in accordance with New York State directives — and to enjoy this moment that you earned after years of hard work.

Last Saturday’s ALANA Multicultural Graduation celebrated the achievements and perseverance of our multicultural students, recognizing the additional obstacles that students who hold marginalized identities may face in working toward degree completion. You can watch the event — and keep the celebration going — in the Livestream archives.

As members of the global community, we are living in a time of crisis and change, and we are all affected in some way. As members of the Colgate University community, we have stories to share to help ourselves and future generations understand these historic moments, even as we look to the past to understand how the University has weathered other crises. The Colgate University Archives invites you to share your experiences related to the COVID-19 pandemic in a form that is meaningful to you, so that your stories can be preserved.
