Each summer, Field School Fellows conduct research in partnership with community and nonprofit organizations in the Upstate New York region. In the summer of 2020, this research took place virtually but over twenty students were still able to complete valuable community-based projects.

S. Brent Rodriguez-Plate, Professor of Religious Studies at Hamilton College, has been named the Gretchen Hoadley Burke ’81 Endowed Chair in Regional Studies for the 2020–2021 academic year.

On October 25, 2019, the Upstate Institute hosted a gathering of community leaders and entrepreneurs to focus on rural economic development in the southern part of Madison County and the northern part of Chenango County.

The Upstate Institute partnered with Hamilton College to bring author Kenneth E. Hartman to Colgate on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

Elaina Alzaibak ’20 interned over the summer at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County (CCE) through the Colgate Upstate Institute Summer Field School.
