Back to Romance Languages and Literatures Updates

Mariette Monpierre’s documentary, Entre 2 rives: de Saint Domingue à Point-à-Pitre, filmed in Guadeloupe and the Dominican Republic, shares the painful and personal stories of two migrant mothers from the Dominican Republic, Cristina Beato (38 years old) and Joanna Olivares (40 years old). Having undertaken this treacherous journey to Guadeloupe, leaving their children behind, these two women lead lives filled with turmoil and anxiety as they struggle to find employment with the ultimate goal of their children reuniting with them in Guadeloupe. By sharing the lived experiences of these two women, Mariette Monpierre raises out of obscurity the untold stories of female migrants within the Caribbean. This conversation with the director is focused primarily on the motivation and goals for creating the documentary.
