Reminder: Faculty Development Council Grant Opportunities

Back to Provost and Dean of the Faculty Announcements

Dear Colleagues,

I write to remind you of the opportunities for support available via the Faculty Development Council and to alert you to the changed deadline for FDC Major Grants, which we are moving to coincide more closely with other faculty-centered funding opportunities. The FDC provides funds to support faculty pedagogy as described in the attached guidelines, which are also available via the "Colgate Grants for Faculty Development" section of our website. Here are the highlights:

  • We award Discretionary Grants of up to $1,500 on a rolling basis and Major Grants of up to $5,000 on a yearly basis.
  • Those applying for Major Grants must usually be tenure-stream or Category I faculty, or senior lecturers. Tenure-stream and Category I faculty, senior lecturers, and visiting faculty are all eligible for Discretionary Grants.
  • This year we have moved the deadline for Major Grants from November 15 to January 26. This coincides with the deadline for Research Council Major Grant proposals and is intended to help our faculty navigate the various funding opportunities available at Colgate with greater clarity.
  • Discretionary Grants awarded this fiscal year must be expended by August 31, 2024. Major Grants awarded this spring may be expended either this or next fiscal year but no later than August 31, 2025.

Please contact me with any questions at ihelfant@colgate.edu as you consider whether to apply for funding from the Faculty Development Council.

With very best wishes,

Ian M. Helfant
