As the semester winds down, the Hami-Down team has been reflecting on what has truly been an exceptional fall. From record-breaking sales to welcoming new team members, the past few months have been filled with progress, creativity, and a deep sense of excitement for what’s ahead.
This fall proved to be one of Hami-Down’s most successful yet. The team hosted two hugely popular general sales in October and November, followed by its first themed pop-up in town — a formal wear-focused event that drew in students despite a surprise snowstorm. The momentum across all three events reaffirmed something the team already believed: sustainable student fashion is thriving.
Behind the scenes, Hami-Down also expanded its team, welcoming four new members who bring fresh energy and ambition. With their arrival came renewed focus on several long-term goals, including building a new e-commerce platform and investing in upgraded operational equipment, such as clothing racks, pop-up changing rooms, and team uniforms.
Bringing new hires on board can be a challenge for any organization, but Hami-Down’s structure, which it has refined over the past few years, has made the process remarkably smooth. Hiring in mid-November gave the new members a low-pressure practice period, when they could shadow current staff and try out different responsibilities before taking on full roles next semester. With many returning team members still on campus during this time, new hires were able to learn without the stress of a major sale around the corner. By January, they’ll come back with a clearer understanding of where they want to contribute — whether in operations, sales, marketing, or another department.
As with every year, Hami-Down has begun planning for the transition of graduating seniors. The organization’s intentional structure of having three members per grade level, creates a natural leadership pipeline that builds responsibility over time.
This year’s seniors, including the CEO trio of Valeria Reyes, Ella Conover, and Perin Romano, have been preparing for their leadership roles since their sophomore year. Now, they’re preparing to pass the baton to the junior class, who will return from abroad next fall ready to take the reins. The seniors will continue to stay connected with the team, but they’re confident that the next group already knows the company inside and out.
While every semester comes with unpredictability, this fall’s surprises were all positive ones. Hami-Down saw record turnout at its opening sale, received more applications than ever before, and still drew crowds at the formal pop-up, even as snow fell outside. These moments underscored what an incredible year it has been for the company and how much enthusiasm exists within the campus community.
The team is already buzzing with ideas for the spring semester. Themed sales like a Valentine’s Day event or a spring break collection are in the works, and the long-awaited Shopify platform is also on the horizon, which will allow for additional payment options and a smoother checkout experience. But above all, the team is focused on continuing the strong momentum built this fall and delivering another semester of successful, sustainable fashion for the campus community.
