Employee Social Media Guidelines

Colgate University does not seek to restrict participation on any social media platform. However, we ask that you review these guidelines as you engage with your personal accounts. 

It is important to note that the owner of the account is personally responsible for all its social media activity and content and said activity and content do not officially represent Colgate University, its position or views. If you identify affiliation with the University on any social media platform, we encourage you to consider using a disclaimer (example “Opinions are my own and may not reflect the views of my employer”) in your profile or comment(s). 

We encourage you to share University news and events with your online networks by linking to the University website and sharing posts published by the University social media accounts. Please think twice before sharing rumors, personal stories, or information about other parties where you do not have their permission. If there are any questions regarding confidentiality please refer to the Colgate University Personnel Policies and Benefits Handbook.  

Most of all, we encourage you to be thoughtful and civil to others and their opinions when posting from your social media accounts.
