The latest episode of 13 features Charles A. Dana Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences Rebecca Shiner and Associate University Chaplain and Catholic Minister Mark Shiner. The couple is joined by Samay Gupta, a member of the Colgate Class of 2024, to discuss their recent trip to Iceland, part of a sophomore residential seminar titled The Good Life: Perspectives from Psychological Science. 

As a clinical psychologist, Professor Rebecca Shiner specializes in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families with research focusing on personality development in those populations. She has investigated stability and change in personality traits and the influence of personality on positive life outcomes and psychological disorders. Professor Shiner earned her bachelor’s degree from Haverford College and her PhD from the University of Minnesota. She completed her clinical psychology internship at the University of Rochester Medical Center. 

Deacon Mark Shiner is Colgate’s Catholic chaplain. Shiner graduated from seminary in 1995 and joined Colgate University in 2003. Both Mark and Rebecca are founding members of Colgate’s Residential Commons System, having previously served as the inaugural co-directors of Ciccone Commons.
