On Nov. 6, Colgate’s second mapathon produced maps for areas where a lack of pre-existing data makes it difficult for first responders to provide relief during humanitarian crises.

A semester-long series of events celebrated the Center for Women’s Studies’ history and the meaningful work it has fostered over the years in honor of the center’s 25th anniversary.

During a lecture on Monday, Oct. 7, Anthony Jack, assistant professor of education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, highlighted the importance of socioeconomic diversity on college campuses.

Five members of the Spanish Language Debate Society jetted to Lima, Peru, July 15–23 to compete in the World Universities Debating Championship in Spanish.

Students, faculty, staff, and community members participated in a campuswide strike for climate change on Friday, September 20.

Following annual tradition, the Max A. Shacknai Center for Volunteerism, Outreach, and Education (COVE) organized a 9/11 Afternoon of Service. On Friday, Sept. 6, more than 70 student volunteers worked with eight nonprofits in Hamilton and neighboring towns to help local farms, promote environmental conservation, maintain trails, and preserve the Chenango Canal among other activities.

A time-honored rite of passage for all new students, Founders’ Day Convocation is the moment when the Colgate University faculty officially welcomes the incoming class into the academy. 

Inside Higher Education writes, “Nationwide, many members of the Class of 2023 are thinking about their college arrivals. Educators hope these new students will find commonality in books assigned to freshmen to read over the summer.”
