There are many ways for Colgate students to become involved with the Longyear Museum of Anthropology and the Picker Art Gallery.
University Museums provide paid job opportunities and learning opportunities for interested students to expand their experience in all aspects of museum work.
Work with staff to create a welcoming atmosphere for our guests and help keep the galleries secure and clean.
Work with the Education and Engagement Fellow on tasks related to developing museum involvement on Colgate's campus. *Must have completed a previous position with University Museums.
Work with curatorial staff to prepare future exhibitions, write exhibition texts, conduct collections-based research, and develop digital content.
Work with the Head of Collections on projects that support the care of the University Museums collections and its associated archives.
Work with the Museum Operations Manager to develop and promote University Museums programming and create interpretive content for in-gallery use or digital platforms.
Work with Curatorial staff to strengthen the knowledge that they learned in their internship and further develop skills helpful for a future in the museum field. *Must have completed an internship with University Museums.
Students have the opportunity to take coursework through the Museum Studies Program. MUSE 300: Museum Curating, is a unique opportunity for students to work with Longyear and Picker Curators to learn about the process of curating a museum exhibition and work as a team to produce displays that are featured in the Picker and Longyear galleries the following semester.
