Update From Colgate University for the Hamilton Community

Back to University Correspondence

Dear Members of the Hamilton Community,

With the approach of family weekend this Friday through Sunday, I wanted to reach out with a brief update from campus.

As of today, we currently have one positive student case of COVID-19, and that individual has returned home for isolation. Given our relative proximity to fall-break travel, we continue to watch for further cases, monitoring close contacts and offering voluntary testing opportunities three times each week for symptomatic students and the worried-well. We also continue to update the Health Analytics Dashboard and follow provisions of the HERO Act, which require the wearing of masks indoors by all employees. We have extended this requirement to include all students and visitors.

Masking, vaccination, and testing are the foundation of our new-normal academic year. They are also the basis for our approach to public health this weekend. Registrations for family weekend have been robust at colleges and universities around the country — Colgate is no exception. We will require all visitors to provide proof of vaccination, a recent negative test, or recent recovery from COVID-19 in order to participate in family weekend events. Masking will be required indoors and strongly encouraged outdoors when physical distance cannot be maintained. You can see our full guidance and a list of events at colgate.edu/familyweekend.

Along with academic and social gatherings, family weekend will feature several athletic competitions. We hope you will join us as we cheer the Raiders on the ice and the field. The invitation goes not only for this weekend, but also for games and matches throughout the year. Again, masks are required indoors, as is proof of vaccination. See our full athletic guidance at gocolgateraiders.com. If you would like to receive weekly updates from Colgate athletics, I encourage you to subscribe to Raider Insider

At the beginning of this semester, we set a goal to pursue our academic mission while maintaining a rigorous commitment to community health. This same resolution has been at the forefront of our considerations in the Emergency Operations Center, Task Force for Reopening Colgate, Health Analytics Group, and Executive Group as we prepare to host our families and promote the vitality of the Hamilton community. Thank you for your support — I hope to see you this weekend.

Sincerely,

Laura H. Jack
