Wireless Network Maintenance - May 29, 2022

Back to ITS Updates

ITS staff members will be performing necessary wireless network maintenance to update security certificates on May 29, from 10 p.m. until midnight.

The clearpass (system that manages authentication for our wireless) security certificates are set to expire on 5/30/2022. The security certificates (certs) involved are the Radius Cert, the HTTPS cert, and the Service cert. The Radius cert is used for the MAC based 802.1x authentication for wired and wireless. There should be no noticeable impact when upgrading this cert. The HTTPS cert is used by our Aruba network switches to connect to Clearpass (our authentication system) in order to receive the Downloadable User Roles, which are used to configure interfaces in a dynamic manner (NAC ports). There should be no noticeable impact when upgrading this cert, a support case with our vendor has been opened in case we need assistance.

The service cert is used when clients connect to Eduroam, our wireless network. In the past, some clients (devices) have had issues when this cert was upgraded. In most cases the certs will install automatically on all devices. However, if you notice that your internet connectivity is impacted, try forgetting the wireless network, rejoining the network, and restarting the device. If that does not resolve the issue, please contact the ITS service desk at 315-228-7111 or email itshelp@colgate.edu.
