Visitor and Guest Information

The village of Hamilton is roughly one mile from campus. There, you will find a convenience store, the Colgate Bookstore, coffee shops, a movie theater, restaurants and more. A little further up Route 12B, you will find gas stations, pharmacies and a grocery store.

In an effort to provide resources for campus visitors, we have compiled a list of overnight accommodations in Hamilton, NY and the surrounding area.

A variety of dining establishments are located near Colgate. Explore dining options.

Within the village, Big Lots and Parry’s sell a variety of general interest items, and Price Chopper sells groceries and household items.

The nearest Walmart is located in Oneida - just over 30 minutes away. For a larger shopping selection, you can venture to New Hartford (a 40-minute drive) and visit Target or Sangertown Square, the local mall. Destiny USA, the largest shopping center in the state of New York, is located an hour away in Syracuse.

Dry Cleaning
Parry’s offers dry cleaning services for customers, and this is a convenient option for guests who do not need clothing back immediately. Call 315-824-0002 for details.

The surrounding areas, including Cazenovia and New Hartford, also offer dry cleaning services.

In addition to cash stations located on the ground level of the O’Connor Campus Center and in the lobby of the Class of 1965 Arena, ATMs are also located at several locations throughout the village, including the banks (Community Bank and NBT Bank) and gas stations (Speedway and Stewart’s Shops).

Wifi is free and access is available throughout Colgate’s campus.

Guests may connect to the Colgate-Guest Wi-Fi network for free. Prior to browsing, users will be prompted to accept an "Acceptable Use Policy."

Colgate guests can utilize the fitness and recreation facilities, including Trudy Fitness Center, the pool, indoor climbing wall, squash/racquetball courts, tennis courts, golf course, running trails and boating facility.

Colgate provides free shuttle service around Hamilton and the University campus, open to students and the public.

Colgate University, located in Hamilton, NY, is 10 miles from the geographic center of New York State on Route 12B.

Nearby transportation hubs include:

• the Syracuse Hancock International Airport
• the Syracuse Regional and Utica Boehlert Transportation Centers, which both offer train and bus service
• The Greater Binghamton Transportation Center, which offers bus service

Visitors to campus can book a reservation on Airport, Train, and Bus Shuttle for trips between campus and Syracuse or Utica. Car rentals are available from the Syracuse Hancock International airport.

Parking on campus is free but limited. Visitors should obtain temporary parking permits online, or from Campus Safety upon their arrival at Colgate.

ADA accessible parking is available for vehicles with the appropriate government issued parking permit.
