Colgate Career Services helps students to explore and prepare for professional life after Colgate. Parents and family members can support their students by encouraging them to take an active role in career services advising, programs, and recruiting based on their personal interests and goals. Students receive two weekly emails outlining all of the opportunities available, and family members are welcome to subscribe.

Here are four tips that will help your student make the most of career services this semester:

Orientation Programs

Orientation programs are a great way for students to get familiar with career services’ many resources.


Upcoming program: First-Year Jumpstart Oct. 21, 22; students can schedule a 1 on 1 Getting Started Appointment

Action Plans

Students of all class years are encouraged to create a personalized action plan with a career advisor. One-on-one advising appointments are available daily. Students may stop by Benton Hall or call the office at 315-228-7380 to schedule.


Alumni- and Employer-led Industry programs

Colgate boasts incredibly engaged alumni who are eager to help students explore new industries, discover employment and graduate school options, and access on-ramps to opportunities. Workshops on networking best practices and strategies are available to all students. Alumni- and employer-led industry programs help students best prepare for the ins and outs of the field throughout the year.

    •    A Day in the Life job shadow program (for first- and second-year students). Application due by Oct. 30. Parents interested in hosting a student still have time to sign up: deadline October 9

Career services cultivates strong relationships with employers across a variety of industries seeking top-level talent for internships and jobs. All students have an account on Colgate’s Handshake job platform, which has more than 500,000 active employers seeking candidates.
