Colgate Places Eight on ECAC All-Academic Team

CAPE COD, MA. The Colgate women’s hockey team placed eight players on the 2002-03 ECAC All-academic team, including three repeat honorees. 

Seniors Toby Mandel and Nicole Lehrhoff, along with junior Katie Breen were tabbed as all-academic selections for the second straight year.

Mandel finished a great career at Colgate providing stability for the Raiders blue line. Mandel played in 96 games and scored four goals, while tallying nine assists.

Lehrhoff completed her four years at Colgate with 12 goals and 22 points in 95 games of action as a right winger.

Breen will return to the Raider squad in 2003-04 with 92 games of experience.  She scored 11 goals and tallied 28 points in three seasons of action.

First time members of the ECAC all-academic team are juniors Caitlin Hornyak and Abbie Webb, as well as sophomores Maura Kehoe, Cheryl Setchell and Kristy MacDonald.

Hornyak and Webb have provided the Raiders with much needed depth the past three seasons.  Hornyak has scored 21 goals and totaled 41 points in three years at left wing.  Webb has played 52 games at the blue line for the Raiders and tallied eight points.

Kehoe netted six goals in the 2002-03 season and 12 in her 63 game career.  She has also tallied 12 assists for the Raiders.

Setchell has been Colgate’s leading scorer her first two seasons. In 2001-02 she finished her rookie campaign with 16 goals and 29 points to lead the team in both categories.

MacDonald had a breakout season in 2002-03, after scoring only one point her freshman year, the second year center scored four goals and tallied 11 points this season despite missing six games with a broken foot.

Colgate’s eight all-academic team selections was third best in the ECAC behind only Harvard and Brown.
