Colgate Together Digest

Back to Colgate Together Digest

Hello, Colgate Community.

Welcome back. While we were away, the Health Analytics Team launched a new, streamlined COVID-19 dashboard. Take a look and enjoy the 0 in the student cases column. That number was current as of midnight.

While travel increases exposure to COVID, we can rely on high vaccination rates to avoid severe illness. But masks are still the best way to prevent transmission. So if you see people voluntarily wearing them around campus, in the gym, in an office — or if they ask you to put one on while in their space — be kind. Should you feel the need to express an opinion, maybe pause and ask yourself, “In all honesty, what’s my intention?” You’ll have to decide for yourself whether it’s proper and honorable.

Vaccination has indeed been the key to success this year. If you’re eligible for a booster, stop by the Clark Room this Thursday, March 24. You can register for an appointment online:

2–3 p.m., Moderna booster
3–4 p.m., Pfizer booster

Given our current pandemic status, the digest will become an as-needed publication moving forward. Since I’m not sure when I will be back in your inbox, I’ll take the opportunity to make a few general statements.

  • Congrats to men’s basketball and our ice hockey teams for their hard work in championship competition during the break. It was a thrill to see our Raiders in the national news yet again.
  • The Office of the Chaplains is hosting a series of weekly reflections. See below (or the campus calendar) for details.
  • You might be concentrating on midterms but residential life is starting to plan for next year. Watch the calendar for a variety of housing information sessions, starting today.

Again, welcome back. And if you were the one who brought the sun to Hamilton from wherever you were traveling, thank you.

Until next time,

Laura H. Jack
Vice President for Communications

Take Note

Students, your campus safety team will be in the Coop lounge on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30–7:30 p.m., beginning March 22. Think of it as our satellite office — and an opportunity to engage with us and talk about whatever is on your mind. Come and eat tacos with us on Tuesdays or enjoy other light refreshments on Thursdays, when we base the theme of our conversations on topics you suggest through this quick survey.

The Colgate chaplains invite you to gather for sacred pause and brief encounters with the diverse religions and spiritual and secular practices represented in our community. Join us every Wednesday morning for 15 minutes of music, a reading or prayer, and brief reflection, led by a member of the Colgate community. Light refreshments will be served. Learn more and view the spring lineup of speakers.

In accordance with Colgate’s Document Retention and Destruction Policy, the purchasing office has scheduled the Confidata shredding truck to arrive on Tuesday, April 19. If you will be sending material for shredding, please contact Stacy Coleman, scoleman1@colgate.edu, with the number of copier boxes, banker boxes, bags, etc. Please make arrangements to have all shredding material sent to central receiving between Monday, April 11, and Monday, April 18. All efforts will be made to ensure the confidentiality of the material prior to the truck’s arrival.

Testing is available to students by appointment — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m in the Clark Room. Please sign up online. Note there will be no testing this Friday. Employees can find free COVID testing at SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Polytechnic.
