The Renovation of the Athletics Center

Back to Advancement Updates

Division I athletics is a defining and distinguishing characteristic of Colgate, setting the University apart and allowing it to increase its reach and reputation. Colgate seeks to attract the most talented and motivated students and student-athletes possible — individuals who are committed to excelling in academics and athletics.

The University also seeks to design, build, and maintain physical spaces that inspire and undergird the pursuit of league championships and national tournament appearances while providing the personnel and operational program support necessary for the optimal development, performance, and experience of all Colgate students. An essential step to achieve these goals is the full renovation of Reid Athletics Center, built decades ago for an all-male student body of 1,500.

Portions of the building will be extensively renovated to provide appropriate and state-of-the art training and wellness facilities for Colgate athletes. Other portions of the facility will be fully replaced to provide a competition venue for men’s and women’s basketball as well as volleyball. Further, new locker rooms will be provided for several Raider teams as well as new spaces for total wellness. This rebuilt, renovated, and reimagined facility will form the southern boundary to the campus and the home of excellence across all sports at Colgate.
