New Faces - September and October 2021

Maria Albertina joined facilities as an administrative assistant on Sept. 3, 2021. Maria has been working as a floater in the facilities department for the last several months. She graduated from Sherburne-Earlville High School in 2020.

Kelli Ariel joined communications as web manager on Aug. 16, 2021. Kelli previously worked at The Hyde Collection Art Museum & Historical House at SUNY Oswego. She enjoys baking and gardening.  

Benjamin “Ben” Badua joined communications as campaign communications director on Sept. 13, 2021. Ben was a partner success manager at SIDEARM Sports. He received his master’s in communications and media from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s in journalism. He enjoys watching sports, movies/TV, and spending time with his partner, Jennifer.

Cara Briggs began on Sept. 20, 2021, as human resources assistant. Cara previously worked as an account clerk at the Herkimer County Tax Department. She received her associate degree in office administration from SUNY Morrisville. She enjoys spending time on her boat at Tuscarora Lake, fishing, softball, fall activities, and spending time with her partner (Kyle), friends, and family.

Anna Brown began on Aug. 3, 2021, as project coordinator in the Office of National Fellowships and Scholarships. Anna was formerly an intern at Longyear Museum of Anthropology at Colgate and is a member of the Colgate Class of 2021. She enjoys music (clarinet, saxophone, piano), knitting, and crafting.

Natasha Brown joined advancement as associate vice president for principal gifts on Sept. 27, 2021. Natasha previously served as director of advancement at The Chapin School and associate vice president for development, principal gifts, at Vassar College. She received her BA in history from Mount Holyoke College and her MA in history from Binghamton University. She enjoys gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family, Christopher ’92, and sons Ethan, 23, and Cameron, 21.

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Cataldo-Murray began on Sept. 14, 2021, as assistant athletic director, marketing. Jackie previously worked at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. She did her undergraduate studies at Emmanuel College in MA and received her master’s from Northeastern University. She enjoys running, golfing, and cooking; is a huge Disney fan; and enjoys spending time with her partner, Kim.

Emily Conroe joined athletics as assistant field hockey coach on Aug. 23, 2021. Emily worked for the Colgate Shaw Wellness Institute as an administrative assistant in the spring of 2020 and as an assistant coach of field hockey in 2018 and 2019. She received her bachelor’s degree in history from Wake Forest and is currently pursuing her physical therapy assistant degree at Herkimer College.

Jessica Craven joined athletics as an assistant strength and conditioning coach on Aug. 9, 2021. Jess was a graduate assistant at Ithaca College. She received her bachelor’s from SUNY Brockport.

Dakota Dailey joined athletics as assistant strength and conditioning coach on Aug. 9, 2021. Dakota was an assistant athletic performance coach at McKendree University. He received his master’s at Oregon State University in kinesiology.

Jeff Dewan began on Aug. 16, 2021, as assistant dean of admission. Jeff was an admissions counselor at SUNY Morrisville. He graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2017 and is continuing his education at SUNY Stony Brook online. He enjoys golf, hiking, traveling, and spending time with his wife, Erin, and daughter, Lillian, 13 mos.

Ryan Diehl began on Aug. 16, 2021, as a custodian in facilities. Ryan previously worked as a forklift operator at Titan Homes. He is a graduate of Madison Central School and enjoys spending time with his children, Jason, 10, and Mason, 8.

Sara Furner began on Aug. 17, 2021, as a custodian in facilities. Sara enjoys horseback riding, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with her partner, Derek.

Aleksei “Lyosha” Gorshkov joined as director of LGBTQ+ Initiatives on Aug. 9, 2021. Lyosha was an assistant director of Pride Center and Women’s Center (Office for Inclusive Excellence) at Slippery Rock University in PA. Lyosha received a PhD in political science from Perm State University in Russia. Lyosha enjoys reading, pets, hiking, exploring abandoned places, and cooking.

Jeffrey “Hacksaw” Haft joined athletics as assistant athletic trainer on Sept. 20, 2021. Jeff previously worked as an athletic trainer, adjunct faculty member, and contact tracer at Mercyhurst College. He received his bachelor’s in sports medicine from Mercyhurst in 2007 and his master’s in sports administration from Canisius College in 2009. He enjoys the WWE, NHRA drag racing, golf, hockey, and going to casinos.

Joe Horn joined athletics as an assistant football coach - receivers on July 29, 2021. Joe was previously employed as an assistant coach at Tiffin University. He has a bachelor’s in sports management and a masters in business administration, both from Ashland University. Joe enjoys golfing. He and his wife, Aly, have a golden retriever, Ruby.

Ramond Hunter joined athletics as an assistant football coach on July 29, 2021. Ray previously served as the defensive coordinator at Ohio Dominican University and as the defensive line coach at Missouri Valley College. Ray has a bachelor’s from the University of Central Missouri.   

Brian Jones began on Aug. 18, 2021, as a custodian in facilities. Brian enjoys camping, fishing, board games, and spending time with his wife, Kasi, and children, Claire (9), Charlotte (6), and Theodore (7 mos).

Jessica Kugelman joined athletics as a diving coach on Aug. 12, 2021. Jessica was a dive coach at High Dive Champions. She received her bachelor’s in psych science at RPI in 2020.

Tanya Law joined facilities as a custodian on Aug. 9, 2021. Tanya was an area manager for the janitorial department at Global Industrial Service and worked in housekeeping at Community Memorial Hospital. She enjoys spending time with her partner, Jason Bard, and her grandchildren, children, and family.

John Lewis began on Aug. 6, 2021, as a shipping/receiving clerk in the bookstore. John previously worked at Parry’s and received his bachelor’s from SUNY Geneseo in 2009. He enjoys working on his home and spending time with his partner, Billy Jo, and children Abbeygail, 11, and Aaliyah, 9.

Mallikah Little joined athletics as director of football operations on Aug. 1, 2021. Mallikah was director of football operations at Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge. She did her undergraduate studies in rehabilitation and disability studies and is interested in sports (particularly football), loves competitiveness, reading about history, and spending time with family.

Charm Little-Ray, LMHC, joined Haven as the associate director of support services on Aug. 2, 2021. Charm comes to Colgate from Brooklyn Community Services, where she served as the program director of preventive services. She has also spent several years providing therapy and advocacy for families and children in the child welfare system. Charm has a bachelor’s and a master’s from Brooklyn College of The City University of New York. She and her husband Michael have two children, Allison and Michael. Charm enjoys basketball, football, and watching HGTV.   

Emma MacCallum began on Aug. 2, 2021, as the ALST programming assistant. She is a recent graduate of Colby College and has served as a communications assistant at the Colibri Center for Human Rights. She enjoys vegan cooking, gardening, and hiking.

Justin Manly-Schneidman joined athletics as the assistant men’s lacrosse coach on Aug. 1, 2021. Justin previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at both Fairfield University in Connecticut and Manhattanville College in New York. He received his bachelor’s from SUNY Cortland. He enjoys golf, hiking, cooking, and spending time with his wife, Allison Pelcher, and their daughter, Adrienne, 2.

Catherine (Katie) Negron joined the Dean of the College Division as an assistant dean of administrative advising on Aug. 2, 2021. Katie was previously employed as an instructor and advisor at Zayed University, United Arab Emirates: Abu Dhabi and as the director of student engagement at Harris-Stowe State University. Katie has a bachelor’s from Bethune Cookman University and MEd from the University of South Florida. She enjoys the outdoors, sports — running, basketball, and going to the gym — as well as photography and volunteering as a Special Olympics advocate.

Michele Passonno joined Haven as the assistant director on Aug. 10, 2021. Michele previously worked in Emory University’s Office of Respect, Campus Life. She received her bachelor’s in psychology and her MSEd & CAS in school counseling. She enjoys traveling, cooking, working out (Zumba enthusiast), walking and exploring with her beagle/basset hound rescue dog (Shea), reading, podcasts, and spending time with family and friends.

Ameer Riley joined athletics as assistant football coach on Aug. 23, 2021. Ameer enjoys spending time with his partner, Lisa.

Maya Slocum began on Sept. 21, 2021, as an admission counselor in the Office of Admission. Maya received her BA in English and Italian from Vassar College. She enjoys dancing, writing, and spending time on the ocean.

Rebecca Veninsky joined athletics as the assistant coach of women’s rowing on Aug. 3, 2021. Becca was previously employed as the assistant coach for women’s rowing at Wesleyan University. She has a bachelor’s from Ithaca College and a masters from Wesleyan.

Angela Wilde began as assistant registrar for University Museums on Aug. 23, 2021. Angela previously worked for Longyear Museum of Anthropology and at the Picker Art Gallery. She received her master’s in museum studies from Syracuse University and her bachelor’s in anthropology/international studies from SUNY Cortland. She enjoys photography, travel, cooking, music, and art. She has one child, Emerson, 15.

Ariadne “Ari” Wolf began on Aug. 20, 2021, as the Women’s Studeies Center coordinator. Ari was a grants assistant at The Mertz-Gilmore Foundation and an editorial consultant at Mermaid Consulting. She received a master’s in English from the University of Rochester, MSA in creative writing from Mills College, and a bachelor’s in gender studies from Willamette University. She enjoys screenwriting, spoken word poetry, swimming, and environmental justice.
