Luke Morneault ’25 Bogart, Georgia

You have been a part of so much during your time at Colgate. Which activity has meant the most to you, and why?

Being a part of the Division I swim team has had the most impact on my Colgate experience. I met lifelong friends from all across the country and enjoyed representing Colgate at swim meets. I knew that I wanted to compete in college, and Colgate felt like the perfect place to continue my love of swimming.

What is something you have accomplished at Colgate that you are really proud of?

I am really proud of my senior thesis, which I completed while working with Professor of Biology Dr. Engda Hagos. I researched the role of the tumor suppressor gene KLF4 in cell cycle regulation, specifically its role in the activation of p21. I worked during the fall 2024 semester on this project and put in countless lab hours into collecting data for my thesis. This was a very rewarding experience as I bonded with the other students in my research group and enjoyed presenting my poster at the end of the semester.

What are your plans following graduation?

This year I will be attending the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. I worked briefly at Ethicon (medical device manufacturer) in Athens at the start of 2025.

What is your favorite place on or off campus, and what makes it special?

I always enjoyed the Dana Arts Center. It is a unique-looking building and very fun to enjoy playing piano in or even hide-and-seek with friends. It has many different areas to explore, and I always felt at peace when I was in the building. I only had one class in this building, but I wish I could have taken more.

What advice would you give to future Colgate students who want to get involved?

Colgate is a very diverse campus and has activities for all students to be included. Dive into as many clubs and opportunities as you can, meet people from all walks of life, and embrace experiences that challenge you. Colgate is what you make of it.
