You are involved in so much on campus. Which activity do you enjoy the most?

Although I’ve gained a lot from all the activities I’ve been part of, Colgate Women’s Rugby holds a special place in my heart. From the moment I joined, everyone was incredibly supportive, even though I had no idea what the rules were. I was nervous at first, especially since I’m five feet tall and had never even touched a rugby ball. But the coach and team made me feel welcome right away. One of my favorite Colgate memories is from my first game against Cornell — we won, I got a black eye, and I was hooked.
What is a key moment that shaped your time at Colgate?
I was struggling in my computer science class. I put in the hours, studied hard, and stayed late to review the material, but the results didn’t reflect my effort. Eventually, I decided to attend office hours and spoke with Professor Aaron Gember-Jacobson. Week after week, he patiently walked me through code, clarified concepts, and helped me realize that my approach to studying needed to change. In that space, I felt supported. I learned that it’s okay to not know everything, and even more importantly, that asking for help is a strength.
What is your proudest achievement here so far?

Learning to step outside of my comfort zone during the internship search process. At first, it was intimidating to reach out to alumni or know how to begin those conversations. But I pushed through that uncertainty by taking advantage of Colgate’s resources, including Career Services and the Computer Science Department. I developed the confidence to navigate rigorous interviews in the field of software engineering. More than just securing opportunities, I am proud of the mindset I have built: one grounded in consistency, persistence, and the belief that I can succeed.
You have already accomplished so much in your time here at Colgate. What is next for you?
Continuing to explore new opportunities and discover where my interests truly lie. Wherever I end up, one thing I know for sure is that I want to give back, especially to first-generation students like myself. Whether it’s through volunteering, mentorship, or outreach programs within the communities I join, I hope to create more access and support for students who share similar journeys.

What is your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is the hiking trails in the upper part of campus. They are quiet, the sunsets from up high are beautiful, and it is the perfect place to unwind and reflect. In one of my classes, EDUC 326: Fermentation and Multispecies Pedagogies, we would hike the trail and learn to identify wild edibles like foraged greens and mushrooms. Whether I am walking with classmates or spending time alone, the trails always bring a sense of peace and connection.
As a first-gen student involved in many groups, what advice do you have for future students?
Take initiative and ownership of your goals. Success doesn’t look the same for everyone. At times, the path forward may seem impossible, but there’s always another way: a back door, a spark of drive, a hunger to keep pushing. With consistency and persistence, you can get there.
Equally important is knowing why you’re pursuing something. Make sure your goals are rooted in what you want, not in trying to meet others’ expectations. Prioritize your well-being, because you can’t pour into others from an empty cup.
