Ben Child teaches courses in American literature and the environmental humanities. His essays on literature, film, photography, and popular music have appeared or are forthcoming in journals such as American Literature, Modern Fiction Studies, American Studies, Southern Cultures, and Popular Music and Society. His book, The Whole Machinery: Cultures of the Rural Modern in the US South, 1890-1946, is forthcoming in the University of Georgia Press's New Southern Studies series in 2019. Child's current research addresses literary reflections and productions of US populism.
With his wife, Katie, he co-hosts The Minglewood Radio Hour on WRCU-FM.
