We are committed to recruiting and retaining the very best faculty and staff. Mindful of the fact that top candidates frequently have a spouse or partner who may also be seeking employment, the Office of Equity and Diversity
offers informational assistance for couples who face the dual-career challenge. Although there is no guarantee of job placement, our goal is to help the spouse or partner of a recruited tenure-stream faculty or staff member identify suitable career opportunities both at the university and in the upstate New York area.
We are a member of the Upstate New York Higher Education Recruitment Consortium
(HERC). Developed in 2006, it is a collaborative response of member institutions to the many challenges of academic recruitment and retention. Of particular interest is finding effective ways to assist the spouses and partners of faculty and staff to secure area employment.
Dual-career Employment at Colgate Faculty positions
If a spouse or partner is interested in a faculty position at Colgate, the individual’s CV will be shared with the office of the Dean of the Faculty
and others as appropriate to determine if expertise aligns with current or anticipated openings and the special needs of the university. Non-faculty positions
If a spouse or partner is interested in a non-faculty position at Colgate, the individual must apply at Careers@Colgate
for any position of interest, and will be considered on an equal basis with all other applicants under the university’s equal employment opportunity policies. If the individual meets the minimum qualifications including education, skills, and experience, the Office of Equity and Diversity
will notify the search chair of the potential for a spousal or partner hire. Colgate’s EEO/AA policy recognizes a diverse range of competitive factors, including spousal/partner hire, that can be considered in the hiring process.
Colgate can neither guarantee employment nor violate equal employment opportunity for all applicants. The Office of Equity and Diversity provides support to spouses and partners of current or prospective employees, ensuring that information about job opportunities is made as readily and fully available as possible.
