About Us

Classrooms, Digital Media and Events (CDME) is a department within ITS staffed by classroom, media and event specialists. We collaborate with faculty, staff and our colleagues in ITS to support teaching and learning by maintaining and supporting classrooms, capturing, editing and creating digital media, supporting audio-visual (AV) installations, and providing special services related to events and exhibitions. Mark joined Colgate in 2012 as a Senior Instructional Technologist, then assumed the role as Information Technology Service’s first Project Manager in the fall of 2014. In January of 2017 Mark was promoted to the Director of Classrooms, Digital Media and Events.

Prior to arriving at Colgate, Mark was the Digital Media Coordinator at Ithaca College where he transitioned the graphic arts department into the modern era and developed the office of Digital Media Services, growing staff and capabilities over his nearly five year tenure.

Mark spent ten years in the SUNY system managing broadcast and production facilities and produced hundreds of hours of educational and institutional content including two documentaries: Bosnia After the War, in collaboration with filmmaker Nancy Burnett; and The Making of a Monument: A 9/11 Memorial with artist and collaborator Charles Bremer. Prior to his career in academia, Mark worked in professional TV production in a variety of roles which have taken him up and down the eastern seaboard.

In his free time, Mark enjoys growing and building a variety of things, from soap to robots, and spending time with his family.

Sarah joined Colgate in 2010 where she worked in the library with Circulation Staff and Government Documents. After a year with the library, Sarah left Hamilton’s upstate grey to pursue a volunteering opportunity as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Colorado.

Sarah made her way back to Colgate in March of 2013, this time to join the Information Technology Services Team. For the first four years back at Colgate, Sarah worked with the Service Desk Team managing student teams, coordinating events, and helping the Colgate community to combat pesky classroom issues. Early in 2017, Sarah embarked on a new role as Digital Media and Events Coordinator. In this new role, Sarah will concentrate on working more closely with Colgate community members to improve our service and support process, to include more consultations and hands-on classroom training. Sarah’s goal is for our new team to make your experience positive and your event a success.

Sarah is passionate about making the University an open, safe, and welcoming learning environment for all. Sarah's preferred gender pronoun is she/her/hers. Sarah is devoted to helping others and making people smile. In her free time Sarah loves to paint, indulge in bizarre cuisine, and explore new music .

Rich Grant

Rich was employed by Colgate in 1984 as the System Manager of Colgate’s VAX 11-780 computer system. Since then Rich has served in a number of roles within IT.

As the Director of Networking, Rich was responsible for planning and implementing the university's network infrastructure.

Promoted to the position of Director of Technology Planning, Rich worked with the CIO to define the overall technology direction of the University, and was responsible for overseeing many of the major projects related to technology.

After the completion of the Case-Geyer library, Rich’s attention turned to the development of Colgate’s digital media program. Rich was responsible for building the digital audio and video studios, and implemented the capability for live-streaming of Colgate events to a global audience.

Prior to his career in Technology Rich was employed in the Aviation Industry and holds a commercial multi-engine pilot certificate, and is certified as a Instrument commercial flight instructor. Before coming to Colgate Rich was employed by the FAA as part of the air traffic control re-training program.

Rich, is also known as a fine art photographer and is a member of the Center of Photography in Woodstock. Rich’s photographs have been exhibited in many art shows and galleries in the region. Rich Also serves on the board of directors of Arts at the Palace, promoting art within the Hamilton community.

Mike Roberts

Mike joined Colgate in July 2006. He grew up in Whitesboro, NY playing hockey, golf and working on anything with an engine. After going to St.John Fisher for Computer Science he worked in the IT department for a couple years and was responsible for the classroom technology.

At Colgate, Mike (among others) is responsible for the installation and maintenance of AV Technology across campus.

In his free time, he is a NCAA Hockey Referee, is slowly restoring a 1971 VW Bus which you will see on campus or at Seven Oaks throughout the summer and spending time with his family.

John Robinson

Most people call me JR, Robby or John. I've been diagnosing, fixing, fabricating, configuring, preparing, designing and installing scientific equipment, multimedia systems, technology inclusive art exhibitions, athletic timing/training technology and other electronic and electromechanical devices for Colgate Associates, Staff, Professors and Students since 1994.

A few of my life experiences include Multi Channel Radio, Radio Teletype Operator, Battalion Maintenance Management Clerk and Anti Armor Platoon Sgt in the US Army and NY Army National Guard. I have had extensive training on my pathway to becoming a Master Electronics Technician. It formally began when I apprenticed in a busy Television and Stereo Repair Center and has, and will, continue indefinitely to meet the ever changing technology needs of our customers.

My off-Gate time is consumed enjoying the company of my family and personally restoring our nearly 200 year old grand country home.

Matt grew up in New Hartford, NY where he played soccer, track and basketball. Earning honors in both soccer and track he received a Liberal Arts Degree from Monroe Community College with an interest in Career IT.

Matt began his career in IT at Utica College as an AV Support Specialist then joined Colgate in 2012 as a multimedia technician where he is responsible for event support and classroom technology.

During his free time Matt enjoys spending time with friends, family and his dog Duke. Matt also plays recreational soccer and golf.

Doug Watson

Doug has owned and operated a video production company for over 21 years. Doug lives in Sherrill, with his wife Deana (Facilities Finance, Material Acquisition, and Inventory Coordinator) and two daughters, Jenna and Emily.

Doug graduated from SUNY Morrisville in 1987 with a degree in Computer Science then spent the next 24 years working as a pewtersmith in Sherrill. Doug began working at Colgate in 2012.

In his free time he enjoys gardening, cooking, playing guitar and spending time with his family.
