Jonathan Levine's interests are centered on the physics of the planets, planetary materials, and interactions between the Earth and its environment in space. His experimental work has included analyses of lunar samples collected by the Apollo astronauts, meteorites, presolar mineral grains, and interplanetary dust.

Together with Colgate students, Professor Levine is presently measuring the abundances of ultra-trace cosmogenic nuclides in meteorites as a means of determining how long ago they fell to Earth.

Professor Levine teaches courses in the traditional physics curriculum, such as electricity and magnetism, and also courses that draw heavily on his research themes, such as planetary science (ASTR 320) and a first-year seminar on the atmosphere (FSEM 121).
