Hello, Colgate Community.
I write with good news. Universal quarantine will end tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. In-person classes begin on Monday unless your professors contact you with other information.
The University was able to make this move with the support of the HAT, EOC, and Task Force on Reopening, based on an analysis of all 2,459 test results from last weekend. These show nine total new cases of COVID-19 identified during our second round of arrival testing.
Read on for some important housekeeping:
All Gate 0 guidelines remain in effect until 7 a.m tomorrow. In anticipation 7:01 a.m., please read the guidelines for Gate 1. Note that, while this Gate allows for greater freedom of movement, visitation between residence halls is still not allowed.
Tonight, when you retrieve your dinner, you will also be able to pick up Friday’s breakfast. Chobani at the Hieber Café will open at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Frank Dining Hall and the Coop will open at 11 a.m. Donovan’s Pub will be open for dinner. Regular hours, as listed online, will go into effect on Saturday.
Mandatory surveillance testing begins the week of Feb. 8 to ensure that we continue to hold to this heartening trend. Make sure you sign up and keep your appointment when the time comes. We are Colgate Together, and that means everyone plays a part in our success — whether you’re a senior wanting to finish your final semester on campus, a faculty member who created a hybrid course model, a staffer who is working extra hours at the testing site, or simply someone who calls this academic community home. The move to Gate 1 is a direct result of our Commitment to Community Health. Thank you for making it possible (and for remembering that we are only ever one large gathering away from an emergency). Please ensure you make your future testing appointments.
I want to acknowledge those who remain in isolation or quarantine. We know we will see you soon, but not soon enough. Our thoughts are with you, and if there are any actions we can take to address your needs, please speak up. Resources are available to you.

Library hours for Gate 1, beginning Monday, are:
Case-Geyer: Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–10 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sunday, Noon–10 p.m.
Cooley: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–10 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday, Noon–5 p.m.
Trudy Fitness Center will open to students beginning on Saturday, Feb. 6. Lineberry Natatorium will open to students on Monday, Feb. 8. Trudy will be closed to everyone on Friday, Feb. 5. Moving forward, hours for these facilities will be:
Trudy: Monday–Friday, 6–9 a.m., 10–2 p.m., 3–8 p.m., Saturday–Sunday, Noon–5 p.m.
Lineberry: Monday and Wednesday, Noon–1 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 6–7 a.m. and Noon–1 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday, 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
Beginning in Gate 1, students will be permitted to drive personal vehicles on campus after 4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday and on weekends, or when retrieving packages, if they have registered for a pick-up time. However, only one person can be in each vehicle. Students in cars must follow all campus regulations for driving and parking, and this includes not parking after 3 a.m. to permit snow removal during the winter. Even off campus, students should not travel by car with other people, since it is impossible to avoid close contact within a personal vehicle.
In Gate 1, socializing will be permitted with the extended family unit in common rooms within one’s own residence hall, following face coverings and physical distancing guidelines. The total capacity permitted by the Gate is inclusive of the number of students who live in the room and, importantly, the size of the room, since 6 feet of physical distancing needs always to be maintained.
