While looking forward to May, Colgate conducted 3,284 tests last week, and we have had no positive results. Which is, coincidentally, a positive result — made possible by your Commitment to Community Health. Thank you.
I was reveling in the good news when I read this paragraph in the New York Times. Given the debates we are hearing about relaxing restrictions, I wanted to quote it to you because it really caught my attention:
Dr. [Anthony] Fauci cited what is happening in Italy, where much of the country will lock down again on Monday, and other parts of Europe. “They had a diminution of cases, they plateaued, and they pulled back on public health measures,” he said. Restaurants and some bars reopened, he said, and “the younger people particularly stopped wearing masks, and then, all of a sudden, you have a surge that went right back up. And that’s where we are right now.”
The hard work you are doing is having remarkable results. It’s a reason to celebrate and keep it up. The science has served us well here in Hamilton, so we will continue to follow it — right back to normal operations.

Students, if you have registered for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment outside the Hamilton area, be sure to fill out the new streamlined vaccine travel registration form, created specifically for vaccination purposes.
As reported last week, all in-person faculty and staff members — including student staff — are eligible to register for vaccination at a New York State point of dispensing. Check the Am I Eligible website for available appointments while the University continues to await doses from New York State for its own vaccination program.
Colgate’s March in the NCAAs begins tonight, when the Raiders take on Minnesota–Duluth in the quarterfinals of the National Collegiate Women’s Ice Hockey Championship. Game time is 7 p.m., and the livestream is available on NCAA.com. When we win tonight, we advance to the Women’s Frozen Four on Thursday against the winner of Northeastern and Robert Morris in a start time to be determined.
Friday, Colgate begins play in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship First Round in Indianapolis. The Raiders take on Arkansas in one of the first games of the tournament, a 12:45 p.m. start on truTV and also streaming live on NCAA.com. When the Raiders win that one, we advance to the Second Round on Sunday against the winner of Texas Tech and Utah State in a start time to be determined.
A Closing Thought
While we are sending our best wishes to the women’s ice hockey and men’s basketball teams, other student-athletes are posting messages of encouragement for grade-schoolers at Sherburne-Earlville Elementary School, where they would normally be serving as mentors. Take a look.
