Hello, and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
If you find Dec. 1–Jan. 17 somewhere, let me know. I have lost those days, and I need them back. Before you look around, please watch President Casey’s video and read this full message — there is a lot of information below.
I am excited to resume regular communications, and I look forward to welcoming you all back to campus next week. Based on your fall experience, you will know that everyone here has been making careful plans for the return to in-person instruction.
ALANA and campus partners have also been planning our annual MLK Celebration, beginning Jan. 25. Please take time today to reflect on current events and Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. In his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech, King says, “The world is all messed up. The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land, confusion all around. But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.”
It’s hard to beat that for truth and clarity at a time of great unrest and upheaval in our country. King also said “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
Instead of focusing on the darkness, we have the opportunity to make the future brighter. We resume our work together and renew our Commitment to Community Health in part because the world needs the enlightened, empathetic leaders we educate here.

As Colgate welcomes students back to campus for the spring 2021 semester, the arrival process will include practices and guidelines designed to protect the health and safety of all. Learn more about the check-in process, sign up for the free shuttle from the Syracuse Airport, print your luggage tags, and more.
Package pickup and textbook delivery will look different during the spring quarantine. These items will be available for you to retrieve in person at specific locations and scheduled times during recreation hours. Be prepared for your quarantine and learn more on the Colgate Together website.
During universal quarantine, experience the outdoors, explore an interest, try something new, and stay active. Browse through our quarantine recreation programming for Outdoor Education adventures, fitness classes, challenges, competitions, and tournaments.
Get creative and connect with friends during quarantine with our new Coop Kits. Choose from a variety of options, including Bob Ross paint sets, games, crafts, exercise bands, and more. Request your free Coop Kit today and it will be ready for pick up Jan. 24–Feb. 5, 11 a.m.–1 p.m., at the Coop CLSI window. It's yours to keep. Those learning remotely are also welcome to order kits, include your address in the form above.
Each day of universal quarantine, we will have new ’Gate Giveaways — books, snacks, crafts, and more, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. ’Gate Giveaways will be handed out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (while supplies last) at the Coop for students living up the hill and at Parker Commons for our students living down the hill and off campus.
