Hello, Colgate Community.
I want to welcome the Class of 2024 and the returning students who joined us on campus today. With the beginning of the new semester, we are launching daily Colgate Together messages. These will be a source of quick but important information, so of course, I hope you will read them regularly.
We are at Gate 0, and there’s nowhere to go but up — if everyone adheres to the Commitment to Community Health.
As reported last week, 866 employees have taken tests with four returning positive results. Students logged 2,219 pre-arrival tests with eight positives. Individuals who tested positive are in isolation at home until cleared to join us on campus. These tallies are well below the statewide positivity rate of 0.8%, released yesterday.
The new Health Analytics Team dashboard is live. It will be updated daily with the status of 20 campus health and safety metrics, ranging across five indicators from new normal to very high alert. It also provides a snapshot of COVID rates in the area and around the state.
People throw the word “unique” around, but how many things are actually one of a kind? This semester qualifies. We’ve done it 200+ times before but never with a universal quarantine. We are doing this together so we can be together.
Talk to you tomorrow.
Laura H. Jack
Vice President for Communications
Take Note
The Health Analytics Team (HAT) monitors data points outlined in the reclosing section of the reopening plan. These metrics also feed the public dashboard. Remember: failure to provide accurate information will skew the metrics. The HAT reminds employees to complete their daily health screenings if working on campus or complete the working-from-home agreement if you remain remote. Everyone should have completed the Commitment to Community Health and the online health training.
Today, upper-level students moved in following protocols for residence halls and other forms of housing, and first-year students took their initial on-campus COVID-19 tests. Many thanks to the staff in Student Health Services and offices across the University who facilitated those tests and will continue to do so in the days ahead.
Missing campus even though you’re on it? The University is inviting prospective students to take a virtual tour — and you can, too. Walk around campus from the comfort of your quarantine space, and spin a daydream of September 8, when you can stroll the walkways in person.
A Closing Thought
Chunk your quarantine. Whether that be five minutes, a day, or a week at a time — find what feels doable for you, and set a time stamp for how far ahead in the future you will let yourself worry. Take each chunk one at a time, and move through stress in pieces.
