Dear Colgate Community,
The Health Analytics Dashboard is one of my frequently visited webpages these days. And while I have carefully avoided the temptation to predict the outcome of our efforts to pursue in-person instruction this semester, I am struck by the fact that all of our boxes are green. It’s October 5, and we are experiencing a new normal on campus, because we are doing the hard work to keep each other safe.
The dashboard deals in aggregate data. It doesn’t see individuals. But you and I do. Yesterday, as I drove through the village, I saw a student out for a run. She was keeping an impressive pace while wearing a mask. That’s not easy, but she was doing it. I saw two friends out for a walk together, distanced and wearing their masks. It might have been hard to hear, but it would have been harder if they were home in different cities or states. We continue to receive requests for clarification around our guidance — this is important because it shows how much you want to get it right.
Before we arrived on campus for the fall semester, President Casey made it clear that the Colgate we would experience during these weeks would not be the University we knew. But I can say — with all of that green on the dashboard and so much commitment from our community — that it is still the University we love.

There is a nationwide supply shortage of flu vaccine this year due to high demand, however we have been able to add some extra time slots to our previously scheduled flu clinics for the month of October. Please sign up here. Further clinics will be scheduled in November.
The Colgate Vote Project strives to create a population of habitual student voters on campus by streamlining the registration and voting process. The project supports all students — regardless of party affiliation, understanding of politics, or voting eligibility — in creating an environment that encourages political activism and participation. The project encourages students to recognize the voice they have when casting their ballot and to recognize their duty to vote as citizens. October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. We have recently seen an increase in phishing attacks asking for personal information. For detailed information visit our page on phishing attacks. These attacks are often disguised as coming from someone trusted, such as supervisor, faculty member, or dean. Please remember to be alert and never respond with personal information; don’t click on links or open attachments from strange email addresses.
