Christina Amato

Christina graduated from East Carolina University with a Masters in Exercise Physiology and is currently the Director of Recreation and Chair of Physical Education for the university. She has worked in several facets of the health and wellness field over the last six years. Christina has experience in the private fitness industry, sports performance, collegiate athletics and recreation, stress management, and wellness.

She has been personal training for three years and believes her clients' success is education in the principles that will make their program the most effective and most efficient. Her philosophy on exercise is that it needs to be a habit, and made part of one’s every day routine. She strives to teach her clients the healthy lifestyle habits that are going to allow them to live longer and with a higher quality of life.

She prides herself on being patient but demanding. Great with beginners, but can easily challenge any experienced exerciser! Her specialty training areas include weight training for weight loss, high intensity interval training, and running.

Bob Galinski Jr.

Bob has been a Certified Fitness Trainer since 2008, and is currently working towards becoming a Specialist in Fitness Nutrition. He has worked with hundreds of clients while working at Tower Fitness at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, the Oneida Planet Fitness, and as a private trainer.

Bob played Division III football and rugby, and since his college years has taken up mountaineering and mixed martial arts. In his free time he hits the gym to run or lift weights. 

Bob’s passion for working out, his positive outlook, and his drive to succeed excites and motivates his clients to better themselves even when it seems impossible.

Shannon Hanby

Shannon is the Program Assistant for the Shaw Wellness Institute here at Colgate University. She graduated with a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health Promotion and Behavior. She is passionate about changing unhealthy behaviors to healthy behaviors that are sustainable.

Shannon has been a runner for many years, and became interested in personal training after realizing the importance of combining weight training with cardio workouts. She became certified by AFAA in the spring of 2012. After taking multiple group fitness classes based off of circuit training, weight training, and kickboxing, she has discovered many fun, challenging, and effective ways to get a great workout.

By making workouts interesting and fun, setting realistic goals, and encouraging her clients, Shannon is excited to be training at Colgate.

Vicky Szymula

Vicky is currently a Certified Athletic Trainer at Colgate University, working with the Men’s Soccer and Women’s Lacrosse teams. She graduated from SUNY Cortland with a BS degree in Athletic Training and Coaching Psychology; and has an MS in Exercise Science and Sport Psychology from Ithaca College. Prior to her employment at Colgate, Vicky worked at a boarding school in Connecticut. While there she served as the school’s Athletic Trainer, Strength Coach, and the Head of Fitness Center operations. Vicky ’s personal fitness background is based in Education, Psychology of Sport,  Sports Nutrition, Injury prevention, and Maintenance.  She is also an avid participant in Obstacle Races (Warrior Dash & Tough Mudder), as well as Sprint Triathlons.

Vicky has worked with athletes of all ages and skill levels. Her personal belief is that everyone’s body is different and will respond to exercise differently. She will work with her clients to build a profile specific to their own needs and goals. Her professional strengths fall under cardio fitness, speed performance, weight lifting, and core control.  Her personal fitness philosophy is to work hard, feel great, and have fun doing it. She is available for individual workout instruction, partner instruction, and group workouts.


Andrew Turner

Andrew is currently the Director of Fitness & Programming for the university. He graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport & Leisure Management with a concentration on Health & Fitness. Prior to Colgate, Andrew lived in Connecticut and was an Assistant Director at Integrated Athletic Performance. There he helped create and run IAP’s Adult Small Group Training program, implementing a training regime for adults of all ages and skill levels. Andrew also has worked with a wide variety of athletes to improve their sports performance.  From training youth aged to the professional level athlete, he has a strong knowledge base to help improve speed, power and agility through proper movement mechanics and strength training.

Andrew’s philosophy on exercise is very strong in body balance, corrective exercises for imbalances, injury prevention, nutrition, flexibility, and regeneration. Andrew would like to offer his skills to help improve fitness, exercise technique and body composition for a healthier life style.
