Outdoor Education Student Staff Training

If you are looking for adventure and an outlet for your leadership abilities, join us on the Outdoor Education Staff.

About the Training Process

The full training experience is nine months of experiential lessons, weekly classes and seminars that bring you together with other highly engaged and diverse first-years and sophomores. Students who complete the training program are generally hired to our staff to teach physical education classes, lead Wilderness Adventure trips, and provide group development opportunities for the Colgate community.

You will participate in hands-on trips to the Adirondacks and other destinations to strengthen technical skills, to instill a sense of risk assessment and management, to promote a passion for the natural world, and to develop teaching and leadership skills — regardless of experience level.

Important Dates, Deadlines and Calendars

Review This Calendar for all Mandatory dates and classes for the training program: 
2015-2016 Calendar

Applicants must attend a mandatory information session on Friday August 28 at 4:30 pm at Base Camp.

Applications must be submitted as a PDF to amrowe@colgate.edu.

Applications are due August 31 by 4 p.m.

There is a mandatory group interview Monday, August 31 from  7-9pm @ at the HOP

Small Group interviews at Base Camp will follow, by appointment, Sept 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 7th

Individual interviews will take place September 8th-11th. All 1 on 1 interviews will be at Base Camp

How to Apply

Step 1) Attend the Mandatory Information Session on Friday August 28th at 4:30 pm at Base Camp. You will receive an application at that meeting. 

Step 2) Submit the Application as a PDF to amrowe@colgate.edu by August 31st at 4pm
