Emma Sholl ’11 Credits Upstate Law Project Experience for Paving the Way for a Career in Law

Back to Upstate Institute News and Announcements

Emma Sholl ’11 credits a law course sponsored by the Upstate Institute with starting her on the path to her current role as lead attorney of the Health and Benefits Section at the Nashville office of Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands.

The English major’s father was a lawyer and she was considering pursuing a career in law, so she took the Upstate Law Project with Susan Conn ’79. Through that class, she was able to work with lawyers at the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, another legal services corporation, on civil court cases. Conn became a mentor to Sholl, who later attended Tulane University Law School and then moved to Nashville.

Read more about how Sholl traces the arc of her career all the way back to her participation in the Upstate Law Project at Colgate in “Advocating for Low-Income Tennesseans” in the winter issue of the Colgate Magazine.
