Dear Colgate Community,
A quick briefing for you: Madison County has 29 active COVID-19 cases. Yesterday evening, New York reported a positivity rate of 3.65% in the micro-cluster focus areas and 1.53% everywhere else. Statewide, we’re at 1.78%. Our own HAT dashboard notes one active employee case.
Cases are rising in 37 states, and none are showing a decrease. The United States recorded more than 83,000 new cases on both Saturday and Sunday, setting a new record of more than 68,000 new cases per day based on a 7-day rolling average. Don’t get me started on Europe.
These stats are a vivid reminder of what can happen if we relax our guard heading into the weekend. Stay strong. Fight the fatigue.
If this were a reality program and we were all on Team Colgate, trying to make it through the COVID jungle without injury before [your favorite rival], the writers would make sure we were turning on each other at this point in the season. There would be the petty faction, the rugged contingent, the ones who think they could do it better alone, and the pleasers who just want everyone to get along.
Unfortunately, this is reality, not reality programming. The stats prove it. But we are in it to win it, and we will finish strong by being — unironically — Colgate Together.
Talk to you on Friday,
Laura H. Jack
Vice President for Communications
Take Note
Please remember that students must register their departure date and time as well as mode of departure. Times are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and choices will be removed as time slots reach capacity, so register soon if you haven’t already.
Take advantage of the many safe, spooky events planned for the coming Halloween weekend, including Spook-Tacular Lantern Tours on Friday and Haunted Hills on Saturday. Or, browse through the many other events on the calendar.
Now that cold and flu season is upon us, it’s more important than ever for students to call Student Health Services if they are experiencing symptoms or feeling ill. SHS staff are available for consultation and will help you determine the next steps for your care. SHS can be reached at 315-228-7750 or studenthealth@colgate.edu.
As a reminder, all Colgate benefited employees can take advantage of MD Live for telehealth appointments. This cold and flu season, virtual care can be your first line of defense. Doctors are available 24/7 for virtual appointments — from diagnosis and treatment to prescriptions, all in one call that you can make any time and from anywhere. Plus, there’s no copay! Get started.
