Hello, Colgate Community.
We are three weeks into a new year, three days from our first weekend together, and a little more than three hours into a new presidential administration. That’s a lot of novelty in one sentence, but it makes for quite a Wednesday.
I am pleased to share some news about COVID-19 vaccine distribution at Colgate. The University has received New York State approval to become a vaccine provider once doses become available. In addition, Colgate is working with the Madison County Department of Health and Community Memorial Hospital to provide future assistance in the vaccine administration for the area community.
So, what does this mean? Colgate will handle the eventual administration of vaccines for all faculty, staff, and students. Currently, those in NYS Phases 1a and 1b are the only individuals who are eligible to receive the vaccine. Because we do not know when Colgate will be receiving doses to administer, if you are currently eligible to be vaccinated, you should continue to explore all options for receiving the vaccine.
This does not change the number of vaccine doses the county receives. By administering vaccines, Colgate helps to free up appointment slots in Madison County for individuals not affiliated with the University and also allows us to offer coordinated distribution for the Colgate community. Additional details will be shared with the campus community once we know more about when doses may be available and how you can sign up for a time slot.

Arrival testing times have been pre-assigned for all students participating in on-campus learning. Find your assigned times on your personalized checklist.
Students, please remember, as you prepare to travel to campus, that check-in is required. You have already signed up for your time (or one has been assigned to you if you did not choose for yourself). Please keep that meeting. It’s a clear demonstration of your commitment to community health and has been carefully planned by faculty and staff members for good reason.
Many thanks to all employees who have been participating in baseline testing. That trifecta of testing, masking, and distancing form the foundation for a full semester of in-person instruction, and your patience — on top of everything else you are doing to make this semester possible — is appreciated.
