Hello, Colgate Community.
The final round of arrival testing wrapped up this afternoon. As of midnight last night, our positive student cases remained at 23. We will receive results from this week’s testing later in the week. Remember that negative test results only mean that you are not positive at the time the test was taken and, therefore, we need to continue to wear face coverings, physically distance, and practice good hygiene. The dashboard notes that our quarantine and isolation spaces are able to accommodate additional cases, and we are prepared to take action.
Gate 0 is a waiting game. You wait for your Zoom session to start, meals to arrive, and packages to be delivered. We appreciate your patience particularly on that last item right now. Employees are rallying to help mail services and the bookstore with a significant volume of deliveries — but it might take an extra minute to receive your items. Rest assured that everyone is aware of the urgency.
Talk to you tomorrow, when we’re one day (hopefully) closer to the end of quarantine.
Laura H. Jack
Vice President for Communications
Take Note
Meal deliveries provide 2,700 to 3,000 calories per day. That said, we’re making some adjustments. For starters, you’ll notice more protein, including eggs and yogurt. Breakfast is now sent with lunch instead of dinner to keep cold foods together (and separate from hot items). We hope you have been enjoying the extra treats from local establishments. And one final note: Please take only one meal at a time — or a hallmate won’t get one. As always, for dining questions or concerns, text 315-825-4119 or email diningservices@colgate.edu.
Employee Health Screenings remain at moderate alert, and that’s not good. All staff: BEFORE working on campus: 1) Log into the Colgate Portal. 2) Click “On Campus Work Schedule” and select the day(s) you will be on campus, then click “submit.” 3) Go back to the portal and click “Daily Health Screening.” Answer the two questions, and click “submit.’’ Thanks for your daily attention to these very important details.
Yesterday, President Casey was featured in The Wall Street Journal’s “College Student’s Guide to Back-to-School Quarantine.” (All students and employees have free digital access to The Journal, underwritten by the Alan Greene ’51 Investment Studies Program and coordinated through the Colgate Libraries and Career Services. Activate your account at wsj.com/Colgate.)
A Closing Thought
Stick to a routine. Go to sleep and wake up at a reasonable time; create a schedule that is varied and includes time for work as well as self-care.
