The Picker is a teaching and collecting museum that engages local and global communities through innovative exhibitions, interdisciplinary research, dynamic outreach, and meaningful experiences with art across cultures, time, and media.

The Picker Art Gallery is located on the Colgate University campus, off Lally Lane, on the second floor of the Dana Arts Center.

Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public.

Parking

Designated parking spots for museum visitors are available on Lally Lane with a visitor permit available in the main office (Dana 203) or the Gallery.

Gallery Hours

The gallery is currently closed for installation. The upcoming exhibition will open September 15, 2016.

History of the Gallery

The Picker Art Gallery, named in honor of Evelyn Picker, mother of the late Harvey Picker ’36, honorary doctor of science, and trustee emeritus, opened in the Dana Arts Center in 1969 and is Colgate University’s fine arts museum.

The Picker Art Gallery’s permanent collection includes nearly 11,000 objects, among them, approximately 8,000 works of art on paper, 1,400 photographs, 900 paintings, and 300 sculptures, primarily from the 20th century. Currently housed in the Paul Rudolph–designed Dana Arts Center on Colgate University’s campus in Hamilton, NY, the Picker Art Gallery is committed to the collection and exhibition of art that enriches the university, the town of Hamilton, and the central New York region.
