If you are
interested in geography, Colgate offers the following two majors:
- Geography
- Environmental geography
The department also offers a
minor in geography.
By studying geography, you will be exposed to the full spectrum of disciplinary subfields ─ physical, human, and nature-society geography as well as basic and advanced geographical techniques.
We will also challenge you to explore critical areas of inquiry: the geopolitics of conflict, climate science, biogeographies of endangered species, public health, urban planning, hazard and disaster mitigation, international development, environmental and social justice, and natural resource management, among others.
In addition to deepening your knowledge of these biophysical and social phenomena, we will help you develop integrative explanatory and methodological approaches for uncovering the relationships between humans and our natural and social environments.
By exploring these themes, you will move beyond passive knowledge
consumption and towards the
production of knowledge. You will apply your skills and perspectives through collaborative work with faculty, fellow students, and members of the wider community.
