We offer both major and minor programs in art and art history. Majors may pursue an emphasis in one of the following courses of study:
- Art history
- Studio arts
- Architectural studies
Our studio art courses provide instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, motion picture production, printmaking, computer imaging, and combined media. These courses are designed to help you explore creative visual modes of expression and gain familiarity with contemporary issues in the visual arts.
Studio practice is augmented by a weekly lecture series, gallery exhibitions, film and video screenings, and guest artists.
Our faculty also teach more than 20 courses in art history that trace the visual arts from antiquity to the present day. We supplement class lectures with visits to area museums, museums in New York City, and close examinations of the works in the following Colgate settings:
