As you return to campus, I hope you will consider the many co-curricular opportunities at Colgate, including student organizations recognized by the Center for Leadership and Student Involvement (CLSI), the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Advising, the ALANA Cultural Center, the Max A. Shacknai Center for Outreach, Volunteerism, and Education (COVE), the Office of the Chaplains, the Office of LGBTQ+ Initiatives, and the Shaw Wellness Institute. Collectively, our staff work with student leaders and members from nearly 200 organizations, programs, chapters, and initiatives. We encourage you to learn more about a variety of these opportunities and to make informed choices about your co-curricular involvement and how these can bring new experiences, connections, and contributions to your experience at Colgate.
Getting Involved on Campus
Our annual Student Involvement Fair will be held on Thursday, September 2. This event provides you with an in-person opportunity to learn more and ask questions about the student clubs and organizations. If you’re not sure where to begin, you can use our Involvement Calculator. This platform lets you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you're interested in. Within a week, one of our staff members will send you an individualized list of opportunities. The options for involvement on campus provide a rich opportunity for students to grow in scholarship, identity, leadership, service, spirituality, and connection with the Colgate and Hamilton communities through shared interests.
This year, our fall fraternity and sorority recruitment process, planned by the Panhellenic Association and Inter-Fraternity Council, will be held September 8 - September 12. Delta Delta Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma are the only organizations that are formally recognized as sororities by Colgate and the Panhellenic Association. Beta Theta Pi, Delta Upsilon, Theta Chi, Phi Delta Theta, and Phi Kappa Tau are the only organizations that are formally recognized as fraternities by Colgate and the Inter-Fraternity Council.
Please register by September 6 for Fraternity or Sorority recruitment. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to email@example.com.
Clubs and Organization Leadership
So that your organization is ready at the start of the semester, we’re asking all student leaders to update the officers in their organization or club on their Get Involved page by August 15 at midnight. This requirement will assist us with making sure you receive all the information needed to thrive this upcoming year. Please contact your advising department with any questions.
I suggest thinking about your co-curricular involvement for the year ahead, reflecting on your academic, personal, and career goals. The new academic year brings a fresh opportunity to try out something new, work towards a leadership position, mentor and guide new students as a leader, or concentrate your focus on a few, deeply meaningful engagements. I’m excited for the year ahead and look forward to seeing the ideas and excitement you create at Colgate.
