During Mandatory Universal Arrival Quarantine

A number of designated locations are identified below, by residence hall or student living location. Per Department of Public Health guidelines, on-campus students may NOT leave their designated areas during outdoor time.
In order to permit outdoor activities during the universal quarantine, Colgate will provide opportunities to engage in scheduled outdoor physical activity twice a day. The outdoor activity sites are determined by residence hall location. The Department of Health (DOH) requires that these activities have staff present and be limited in number and duration.
Scheduled outdoor time for first year and second year students will begin on August 25, and for upper-level students will begin on August 27. Up until these dates, the designated outdoor locations are being used as active student move-in zones and also as locations for arrival day testing.
DOH approval to offer this outdoor time is contingent on every student adhering to these commitments:
University staff will be available at each designated outdoor area during the specified time periods to monitor activity and assist in facilitating physical distancing. Again, this staff presence is required by the DOH in order to permit outdoor activities during the universal quarantine and to provide guidance about the Commitment to Community Health.
During universal quarantine, it is essential that students follow these schedules and locations, maintain physical distance requirements, and always wear an appropriate face covering. Doing this will ensure that students are not later identified as “close contacts” if a student tests positive for COVID-19 after the arrival day test results are returned and following the second set of test results 7–10 days later.
In order to ensure the integrity of this plan and the ability of the University to identify and isolate positive cases, students must work with the University to hold one another accountable to these requirements. The opportunity for outdoor time is predicated on everyone following these policies and again, actively contributing to a community that is focused on the safety of self and others. Students in violation of the policies governing outdoor activities will be in violation of the Commitment to Community Health and will be asked to leave University housing and will forfeit their opportunity to be on campus this fall semester.
For the purposes of quarantine requirements, the Department of Health designates the acceptable outdoor locations for private residences as those contiguous with your private home or apartment. Students must still maintain appropriate distancing and are not permitted to have non-residents gather in these locations (whether lawns, driveways, balconies, etc.).
As a reminder, family units gathered in an outdoor location must not commingle with residents from another family unit (from a separate apartment or home), which share an outdoor space. Students should also not leave their property to seek physical activity. Students using their own lawn spaces for outdoor time are not restricted to the times designated above.
A Colgate Cruiser will provide transportation during the scheduled outdoor period in a continuous loop. Face coverings must be worn and physical distance of 6 feet must be maintained at all times. Designated spaces for private off-campus students without private lawns will be the Athletic Fields/Track area.
Students will be permitted to walk to and from the designated shuttle location only during the designated times in order to comply with the Department of Public Health and NY State’s Executive Order 205.
