Colgate Together Digest

Back to Colgate Together Digest

Hello, Colgate Community,

Happy Friday and congratulations to the entire Colgate community. Today is the last day of classes, and we have made it here together by doing hard work and staying strong. In particular, I want to recognize winners of our annual academic awards, the 1819 Award, and Phi Eta Sigma Professor of the Year. See the full list on the website.

In our final rounds of surveillance testing, we have identified one new student case of COVID-19 — we send our best wishes to members of the community who are in isolation and quarantine. As I mentioned on Wednesday, we are exchanging surveillance testing for pre-departure and pre-commencement testing. Students, if you need an antigen test, please sign up for an appointment. International students who are traveling abroad and need PCR testing should contact Student Health Services directly at 315-228-7750 or studenthealth@colgate.edu. Employees and students participating in commencement will receive details on the check-in process soon.

Students know best: the last day of classes does not mark the last day of effort. If you ace every paper and skip your final, the GPA will suffer. So as I send congratulations and thanks, I also encourage everyone to finish strong during the next 10 days and help to make commencement a success for the Class of 2021. Wear your masks, maintain physical distance, and follow all Gate 4 guidelines — even if you’re fully vaccinated.

A new normal awaits us in the fall, and I can’t wait to enjoy it with you.

Laura H. Jack
Vice President for Communications

Take Note

Case-Geyer will be open until 10 p.m. on May 1 and until 2 a.m. May 2–6. We wish students the best of luck as you complete your classes and prepare for finals.

The Senior Class Giving Committee would like to remind our classmates that Torch Medals have been delivered to your CU Box or mailed to those studying remotely. Please be sure to collect your Torch Medal so that you can present it to a member of the Colgate community who had an impact on your Colgate experience. If you have any questions, email annualfund@colgate.edu.

As a reminder, due to the potential volume, risks, and support-staff demands of year-end events, food is not currently allowed at University events, with limited exemptions for religious observances. Offices and departments may spend operating budgets on small pre-packaged, grab-and-go snacks (e.g., pastries, cookies, ice cream sandwiches) to distribute after end-of-semester celebrations; however, offices and departments may not otherwise spend their budgets on food. Previous exceptions to purchase food, including the use of BAC funds, will only apply to grab-and-go or takeout meals.

Employees working on campus, May is just around the corner! Please go to the portal and fill out your on-campus schedule for the month.

Today is the deadline to sign up for the free shuttle to Syracuse Airport, May 2–May 9: May 2–4: Noon and 3 p.m.; May 5–7: Noon, 4 p.m., and 8 p.m.; May 8: Noon and 4 p.m.; and May 9: 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Pick-up location is outside of Donovan’s Pub along Lally Lane. Vaccine FAQs

What health information can Excelsior Pass access?
When you receive a COVID-19 vaccination or test in the State of New York, the Department of Health receives a copy of your records from your vaccine administrator, provider, or lab. Using the information you provide, Excelsior Pass searches the Department of Health’s records for your COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results and then provides you a pass showing your name, date of birth, pass type, and pass expiration. No other information is accessed or stored. Find out more about the Excelsior Pass Wallet.
