Colgate Together Digest

Back to Colgate Together Digest

Hello, Colgate Community,

We have conducted hundreds of COVID-19 tests of various types during the past few days, and at this point, we have had no new positive cases to report. We continue to watch closely as we head toward Friday and a review of our Gate 3 status.

As we continue to monitor our health analytics, we are turning our full attention to planning for upcoming campus events, including commencement and everything that goes with that important tradition. Come snow or pandemic, everyone wants to be here, to honor the hard work that our seniors have put forth during these last four years — and, in particular, the last two. Within the context of global events, we are doing everything we can as a community to make that happen safely. We will keep you posted as plans develop.

In the meanwhile, stay safe and healthy. I’ll talk to you on Friday.

Laura H. Jack
Vice President for Communications

Happy Administrative Professionals Day

The Center for Leadership and Student Involvement has a limited number of Coop Kits remaining. Choose from a variety of options, including games, crafts, exercise bands, and more. Starting on Thursday, stop by the CLSI desk between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to pick up a new game or crafting activity that you can enjoy with friends.

Don’t miss your chance to vote on the Summer Reading for 2021 — the survey is live until 5 p.m. tomorrow. Have your say in selecting one of five titles to serve as Colgate’s text for 2021. Check your email for links to book reviews, author interviews, and paragraphs that will familiarize you with each of the finalists.

CUdos this week go to Emily Ball ’22 for helping people keep a positive mindset as we entered Gate 1 and reminding us of the hope for a return to lower COVID cases; and to Rebecca Downing, senior director, communications and parent initiatives, for her patience, empathy, and understanding in responding to numerous parent email messages. If only there were more Rebecca’s in the world!

In lieu of a week-long, in-person conference in 2021, the Colgate Writers Conference has announced a three-day virtual Porch Symposium, unfolding every evening, June 16–18. The symposium will feature literary readings, master classes, panel discussions, and the kind of conversation that feeds a writer’s mind and soul. Colgate students can register for the 2021 Porch Symposium for free, thanks to the generous support of the Colgate Arts Council. Find out more and register.

Employees working on campus, May is just around the corner! Please go to the portal and fill out your on-campus schedule for the month. The HAT uses the on-campus schedule to determine which employees are in the surveillance testing pool. If you know you will be on campus in the coming weeks but are not yet sure of the day, select at least one day of that week and adjust it once you know your schedule.
