From the Campus and the Village, A Message from Mayor Loveless and President Casey

Back to Updates & Messages: COVID-19

Dear Students,

In less than a week, Colgate University will reopen for in-person instruction. We are excited to welcome you back to campus and to the Village of Hamilton. When you arrive, Colgate’s reopening plan, based on the latest science and conforming to the laws of the State of New York, will be in full effect. It is a long document but its spirit is simple. Working together we will protect the health of the campus and the village we love. We are doing this together so that we can be together.

As president and as mayor, we ask you to join us with your enthusiasm, your passion, and with the recognition that your individual choices this semester matter deeply. We are asking everyone to make decisions with others in mind so that Colgate can continue its semester in person, and so that all members of the campus and village community stay healthy and safe. This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment to engage in the true pursuit of a public good.

Some of you know from first-hand experience that COVID is a dangerous virus, and experts are still learning its intricacies. But the elements of the reopening plan, pursued with a desire for community and respect for each other, provide our best chances for a successful fall semester. We want to see you all again, but we want you, and this entire community, to be safe.

Travel safely, and we will see you soon.

Brian W. Casey
President, Colgate University

RuthAnn Loveless MA’72
Mayor, Village of Hamilton
